Red Sea Star Underwater Restaurant, Bar and Observatory – Israel

The world’s first underwater bar, the Red Sea Star, is submerged six meters below the Red Sea in Eilat. Each table has Plexiglass windows – two either side and one above – so that diners can admire the fish, coral, and other sea life from their dinner table. The décor is even marine-inspired with jellyfish stools, urchin cushions, and anemone lighting fixtures.

Before the Red Sea Star was built in 1998, the area on which it stands was a damaged seabed, but four years before it opened the Red Sea Star team started growing a coral nursery surrounding the reef to save and preserve what used to be an active and colourful coral reef.

Absolut Icebar – Sweden

The very first bar to be made entirely of ice can be found in the small town of Jukkasjarvi in Sweden. Although novelty ice bars seem to be popping up everywhere these days, even in the baking hot Niger desert, the Absolut Icebar, within the Ice Hotel, is the original ice bar.
Guests don thermal capes and huddle together in freezing cold conditions surrounded by carefully-crafted ice sculptures. The Absolut vodka cocktails are served in ice glasses, just make sure you don’t get your lips stuck to them!
The ice is sourced from the Torne River in the village of Jukkasjarvi and the frosty bar is only open during the winter from December to April.

Bojangles – Australia

In the town of Alice Springs in the red centre of Australia, backpackers and travellers on their way to visit Uluru will almost certainly end up at this curious bar.
Walk through the closely guarded saloon doors and you’ll be amazed at what you see – boots hanging from the ceilings, snakes in tanks, and a coffin with a suit of armour inside which says ‘How Much To Touch Ned’s Nuts?’ Pull out some peanuts and throw the shells on the floor, because at Bo’s anything goes.
Sounds like a quirky bar already, but wait – it gets better. If you go to the bathroom you might get a little surprise, for when you come to wash your hands, each tap turns on the water in a different sink!

A french restaurant totally in the dark

The « Dans le noir » (in the dark) french restaurant has a secured dining room for 50 to 60 people in total darkness. Customers choose their menu before entering the restaurant and then blind people take care of them after guiding them to their table. No movement is authorized without the help of a blind employee, event to go to the bathroom.

Jumbo Hostel (Stockholm): World's First Aircraft Inn

Stockholm is the house of this wacky hotel, the first aircraft inn. This abandoned Boeing 747 jumbo jet was saved from being trashed metal to become a 25-room hotel sited in Stockholm's Arlanda airport.

Each room is bare 65 square ft big and furnished with bunk beds, overhead luggage storage and flat-screen TVs. There is a reception area and a cafe with toilets and showers at the rear of the aircraft, which means that you will have to share! The upper deck is a conference room and the best of all, the cockpit is where the wedding suite is housed.

Not a very comfy hotel I would think, but staying there just to get a feel of it might be cool.

Klo Bar, Berlin

The most bizarre drinking experience ever. Red wine in blood transfusion packs, electric shocks from tables, rotating bar stools, a tarantula in a glass case, a flasher at the entrance... and not too expensive either! Has to be seen to be believed.

Full of real skeletons scary decor. Located in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Every hour two sets of skeleton legs protruding from the wall have simulated sex w/ sound effects. Bathroom is hidden in a bookcase!

June Barugh's bar: a bar in a house garage

It is hardly the most glamorous location for a bar, but police have accused a middle-aged woman of running a pub from her dingy garage. June Barugh's home was raided with police claiming they found a fully functional bar with a price list of alcoholic drinks and bar snacks, a jukebox and a fruit machine. But the 52-year-old denies ever selling alcohol and claims the bar was not functioning.

DM Bar: devoted entirely to Depeche Mode

Devoting a bar to a favorite band might be a cracking idea for a really, really popular artist. Perhaps a U2-themed bar in Dublin, or a Red Hot Chili Peppers pub in California? Heck, even an Acca Dacca pub in Sydney would probably go down a treat. But a bar entirely devoted to Depeche Mode in the Baltics? Erm... Never let it be said that the owners haven't gone the whole hog though. For the undoubted millions of Estonians who just love, um, whatever great songs Depeche Mode happened to do, there is a whole host of memorabilia strung up along the walls. This includes a picture of a distinctly non-plussed member of the band in the bar, looking probably more frightened than he's ever been in his entire life. Oh yes, and you'll not need two guesses to work out the music policy. Non-stop Mode hits until closing time...

Eternity Bar: a bar in the shape of a coffin

Feeling down? Why not drown your sorrows in a gigantic coffin-shaped bar at Truskavts, Ukraine, called the “Eternity Bar”.

Zetors Bar: decorated with tractors

Located at Helsinki's, Finland tractor pub Zetor, named after the Czech tractor brand popular during the Cold War, is really something. The pub, owned by Aki Kaurismaki, was decorated with Zetors fitted with a bar counter so you could sit on or around the tractors enjoying your beer. Almost like home.

Clinic Bar: a bar themed as a hospital

Inside the extravagant indoor shopping and entertainment area of Clarke Quay, you will find Singapore's hospital themed bar, The Clinic. It has over 15,000 square feet and is designed with labyrinthine style pill shaped rooms that help give it a “drug” trip effect. The decor and the ambiance of the nightclub was designed by architect Damien Hirst (15 of Hirst's original artwork are displayed throughout the bar) to resemble a medical clinic by introducing syringes, drips, test tubes and other medical paraphernalia. (You drink out of IV bags!)

The Clinic is located in Clarke Quay in downtown Singapore. It's a pricey establishment but for those looking for something a little different, a little weird, a little off-beat, head to The Clinic Bar next time you are in Singapore.

Casa Pocho: a bar where you need to insult the bartenders to get a drink

A bar in Spain is serving up free beer and tapas to recession-weary customers who insult its bartenders as a way to let off steam. Casa Pocho in the beach resort town of Cullera near Valencia has a promotional gimmick that works like a charm. Bernard Mariusz, the bar's Polish-born co-owner, said the free alcohol and snacks go only to those who come up with truly original insults. “They can't call me S.O.B., but they can call me jerk, idiot, clown, that kind of thing,” Mr Mariusz said. “This works, because even people in their 70s come to insult me.” Mr Mariusz said he and Michal Lotocki, his business partner, came up with the idea to help people relax during the hard economic times. Rather than argue about money at home with their spouses, he suggested they stop by and take it out on him.

Chillout: made entirely out of ice

Chillout' is the Middle East's first ice lounge. Almost everything at the restaurant is sculpted out of ice. Dinners will sit on ice benches or chairs, eat at ice tables, out of ice plates, drink from ice glasses served from a bar made of ice. The $17 cover charge gets you one drink and the rental of a hooded parka, woolen gloves and insulated shoes.

Hobbit House Bar: a bar served only by dwarves

Hobbit House is a world famous bar and folk house in Manila, Philippines. Based on that J.R. Tolkien Trilogy, all the waiters at this bar are dwarfs. From the front door up to the cashier, you will be taken care of by friendly, charming and always smiling little people. Every night aside from their jobs as waiters, they can also be seen happily posing for pictures with tourists and travelers alike. The bar has a dark, smoke-filled ambience where 100 different kinds of beer from around the world are offered.

Skeleton Bar: decorated with skeletons

I bet you feel like you're having a drink in a bar built by the Alien. And in a way, you kind of are, because this odd-looking establishment was designed by Hans Rudi Giger (HR Giger), who worked as a designer on the Alien movies, receiving multiple awards, including an OSCAR for best special effects. Giger did great work on this museum-bar, you must feel like you're somewhere in the Alien universe or inside the skeleton of a monster. In any case it's very original and refreshing.

Each table has two windows on the side and one above, giving dinners an octopus eye-view of the kaleidoscope beauty of the undersea kingdom. Ironically, the guest's attention tends to get torn between the magnificent sea creatures in the colorful coral garden outside and the marine looking creatures and shapes inside such as the jellyfish stools and anemone lighting fixtures. The restaurant offers continental cuisine with the main course priced between USD$10-20. It seats 105 guests and is open daily including weekends and holidays from 10 am to 1 am.

Cova d'en Xoroi, Menorca, Spain

If you thought Menorca was all British beer bellies, cheap booze and foam parties, you might be right, but it's also home to this undeniably cool cave bar. With stunning views over the Mediterranean sea and a cosy, intimate atmosphere, it's a refreshing change from your average party bar.
There's a small entrance fee, of around seven euro, but when you're nursing a cold beer while watching the sun go down we suspect you'll agree it's worth it.

Ireland life

Waxy O'Connor's, London

Visitors to Waxy O'Connor's could be forgiven for thinking they're seeing things - this London pub has a rather large tree inside it. Even more impressive is the fact that the preserved beech tree was brought over from Ireland. There are also several smaller bars within this London pub - the Cottage bar has cosy, fireside seating and Irish music but, for sheer novelty value, head to the stone paved Church bar, which contains a genuine church pulpit, confessional box and tombstone all brought over from Ireland when the pub was built.

A river runs through it

The Canalhouse, Nottingham

If you've ever been unfortunate enough to fall into a canal or river while drunk, it might be best to avoid the Canalhouse - the Nottingham canal goes straight through this town centre pub. Located within a former warehouse, this large venue occupies the lower floors of what was once the Canal Museum. Expect delicious food, a wide range of local ales and barges drifting past your table.

Tinkle tipple

Das Klo, Berlin

Klo is slang for toilet in German, so the fact that this German pub is big on potty humour shouldn't come as a surprise. Food is served in miniature ceramic bowls or chamber pots, and the beer comes in urine specimen bottles. In the women's toilets, there's a kilted mannequin fitted with an alarm that sounds in the bar whenever curious punters dare to peek beneath the kilt. If that's not enough, spiders and snakes hang from the walls, and when it comes to seating, visitors can choose from coffins or toilet bowls.
